Brent took this photo yesterday while driving home. He says this person stands at this bus stop in Te Atatu, holding up an LP of Aladdin Sane, *every single day* at about 3.30 - 4.00 pm. (I never see this in person because my bus comes past about an hour later.)

What is this? Art? Crazy fandom? Wackiness? Batshitinsanity? Any suggestions?

I don't know, but it makes me want to move to New Zealand.

He could be batshit crazy -- a lad insane, one might say....

I bet that guy would eat you with a fork and spoon.
What is that, a cape? Or some kind of elaborate scarf?

I think it's a woman, which is even weirder (since Intensely Nerdy and Weird Expressions of Fandom are usually a boy thing). Another strange contextual issue lies in the location. For those of you not familiar with Te Atatu, it's a pleasantly boring suburb. Not far west enough to be arty, not central enough to be hip... just sort of dull. I mean, the bus stop where that person is standing is right opposite a Caltex and a Wendys, and along the road from a supermarket, a fish and chip shop and a KFC, and that's about as exciting as Te Atatu gets. Why choose that spot?

Is every part of their body also always covered up or was it just cold the day Brent took the photo?

I have to add customer name of the week BTW: Fanny Fong. A follow up to Jason Mycock.

Maybe it's Bowie fandom... at college I knew a girl who was completely obsessed with Bowie to the point of neurosis. And this ties in with the weird names thread - her name was (and still is, I imagine) Guinevere Beethovena von Ludwig. No joke.

My first girlfriend and I bought that album the day we started going out many many years ago, 1973 to be precise...I still have the copy. She used to paint the face on herself sometimes when we went to a party (we were, you understand, very young and silly). Anyway, sadly she passed away a couple of weeks back, and I've been thinking of and playing AS quite a bit since then, for the first time in quite a few years. She would've understood this person, whoever they might be...ta Danielle
